LONGEVITY & YOUNGEVITY / SLEEP OPTIMIZATION

Sleep Optimization

Better sleep for better health, performance, and longevity. Rather than looking at sleep in isolation, Dr. Shamloo evaluates the broader factors that may be interfering with sleep quality, duration, consistency, and recovery.

Understanding your sleep

Sleep is one of the foundations of physical health, mental performance, recovery, and healthy aging. Yet many people consistently sleep poorly, wake feeling unrefreshed, or struggle to maintain a healthy sleep schedule. Poor sleep can have many contributing factors, and a comprehensive evaluation may consider:

Sleep schedule and consistency
Difficulty falling or staying asleep
Nighttime awakenings
Morning and daytime energy
Stress and lifestyle
Caffeine and alcohol consumption
Exercise and activity patterns
Medications and supplements
Hormonal and metabolic factors
Bedroom environment and nighttime habits

A sleep diary can also provide useful insight into patterns and behaviors that may be contributing. The goal is to understand why you aren’t sleeping as well as you could be, rather than simply recommending a generic bedtime routine.

A personalized approach to better sleep

Based on your evaluation, Dr. Shamloo can identify areas where changes may help improve your sleep and develop a personalized optimization plan. Recommendations may involve changes to sleep timing, daily routines, nutrition, exercise, stress management, nighttime behaviors, supplements, or other aspects of your overall longevity plan.

When chronic insomnia is present, behavioral approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) have stronger evidence than relying on sleep-hygiene advice alone, and appropriate referral may be recommended.

When a sleep specialist is needed

Elite Spine & Pain Institute does not perform overnight sleep studies or in-lab sleep testing. If your symptoms suggest a medical sleep disorder — such as obstructive sleep apnea, significant sleep-disordered breathing, or another condition requiring specialized diagnostic testing — Dr. Shamloo will recommend evaluation with an appropriate sleep-medicine specialist.

Symptoms such as loud habitual snoring, witnessed pauses in breathing, nighttime gasping or choking, and excessive daytime sleepiness can warrant further evaluation for sleep apnea. Formal diagnosis requires appropriate objective testing.

This allows sleep optimization to remain part of your broader longevity plan while ensuring that conditions requiring specialized testing receive the appropriate level of care.

Sleep & longevity medicine

Sleep optimization is part of Dr. Shamloo’s comprehensive approach to helping patients feel better, perform better, recover more effectively, and support long-term health as they age.

Sleep also interacts with many of the other areas evaluated through Longevity & Youngevity care, including hormones, nutrition, physical activity, stress, and lifestyle.
