Regenerative injections for ligament injuries
Ligaments connect bones to one another and provide stability to joints. When a ligament is injured, stretched, or partially torn, healing can sometimes be slow or incomplete.
Depending on the location and severity, PRP or stem cell-based injections may be considered for certain ligament injuries — particularly when pain or functional limitations persist despite more conservative treatment. Treatment may be considered for selected injuries involving the knee, ankle, shoulder, wrist, elbow, hip, and pelvis.
Complete ligament tears or injuries associated with significant instability may require orthopedic surgical evaluation rather than regenerative treatment.
Regenerative injections for tendon injuries
Tendons connect muscles to bones and are particularly susceptible to both acute injury and chronic degeneration. Unlike some other tissues, tendons can be slow to heal — repetitive stress, overuse, aging, and previous injury can all contribute to persistent tendon pain and degeneration.
PRP and stem cell-based therapies may be considered for certain conditions involving tendons throughout the body, including the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, ankle, and foot.
For appropriately selected patients, regenerative injections are designed to support the healing environment within damaged or degenerative tendon tissue and may help improve pain and function.
Regenerative injections for muscle injuries
While many muscle injuries heal naturally, some patients continue to experience persistent pain, weakness, or impaired function long after the original injury.
For appropriately selected muscle injuries, Dr. Shamloo may consider PRP or stem cell-based therapy as part of a regenerative treatment strategy, directed to the affected tissue with the goal of supporting the body’s natural repair response.
PRP vs. stem cells for soft-tissue injuries
Both fall within regenerative medicine, but they use different biologic approaches.
There isn’t a single regenerative treatment appropriate for every soft-tissue injury. Dr. Shamloo determines which is most appropriate after evaluating the individual injury.
Why consider regenerative injections?
For appropriately selected patients, these injections may offer several potential advantages:
Regenerative medicine cannot guarantee that damaged tissue will completely regenerate or return to its pre-injury condition. The goal is to incorporate regenerative therapies into an individualized strategy focused on healing, recovery, and restoring function.
